So Asteroid 1950 DA may collide with Earth -- in about 800 years. Scientists are even now considering ways to move the thing out of our orbit, and all of their plans involve low-tech solutions like coating it with dust to minimize or exploit the Karkovsky effect (if you're not a space enthusiast like me, don't worry, the article explains what that is).
Reading this, I'm thinking "Hey, guys! We've got 800 years to worry about this! I think we'll have some better methods by then. Just get the laser weapons working and we'll vape it!"
