A guilty pleasure....
Music, like scent, is one of the great Memory-inducers. A particular song can bring back memories of good and bad times, can transport you to that place once more. Which is why I like a lot of 80s songs -- they remind me of my past, both the good and the bad. They are markers of the paths I've taken through this life.
It is for this reason that I love listening to a particular album I recently found in the back of a box of tapes. The artist? Loverboy.
That's right, Loverboy. I don't even really remember who this guy was, but I remember listening to his music -- in the car with my Aunt Karla, rocketing along "The Canyon" near Clearlake, California, on the many trips I took to visit her while I was in the Group Home back in the early 80s. Listening to the album -- in particular, the first three songs (The Kid is Hot Tonite, My Way, and Lady of the 80s) takes me back to those times, some of the best of my life -- just driving with my aunt.
