Just got a call from my aunt; my grandfather is in the hospital with (probably) a broken hip.
He's 89 years old. Broken hips at that age are bad. For seniors, the rate of death in the year after a hip fracture is 20-25%. My grandfather is already pretty frail, and we're afraid this may make him just give up. And, sure, 89 years is a good run, but he's my grandpa. And Tegan's Poppy. She adores him, and always goes to talk to him specifically when we're over at Karla's house.
